WhiteHat Security Launches Education Services Division Led by Seasoned Industry Experts

Focus on Web Application Protection Enables IT Professionals to Implement and Maintain Effective Website Security Programs

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—March 17, 2008 — WhiteHat Security, a leading provider of website security services, today launched a new education services division for IT professionals who handle website security within their organizations.  WhiteHat’s expert staff will provide developers, information technology, information security and management professionals with up-to-date knowledge and the skills required to deploy meaningful website security measures.

As the threat landscape continues to evolve, education and awareness on how to protect the Web application layer is crucial.  WhiteHat’s experience assessing hundreds of production Web applications on a daily basis puts the company in a unique position to offer cutting edge training based on extensive knowledge of real world vulnerabilities.  The education curriculum reflects the broad experience from these assessments and the expert analysis that distinguishes the WhiteHat Sentinel Service from other website security solutions on the market.

Initial offerings include two interactive hands-on courses:

  • “Introduction to Web Application Security” is a one-day workshop providing an overview of the fundamental principles of Web application security.  This session presents students with an understanding of how Web applications work, how vulnerabilities are manifest in them, how to find and exploit those vulnerabilities, and solutions for protecting websites.  This course is designed to arm students with the conceptual knowledge of various attack techniques in Web application security.

  • “Secure Coding for Java Developers” is a two-day session designed to demonstrate the dangers of insecure coding to Web application developers.  Attendees will learn about specific ways their code can be exploited and learn tips and tricks to avoid introducing lethal vulnerabilities to the development process.

All courses are led by WhiteHat’s staff of seasoned Web application security professionals who have expertise in building production Web applications and incorporating security into the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).  Sitting on the front lines of website security every day in their roles at WhiteHat, the instructors will call on their experience to help attendees gain deeper insight into website security.  At the helm of the training initiative is Anurag Agarwal, who has more than 14 years of experience designing, developing and managing Web applications at high-profile companies.  As an active contributor to the website security field, and project leader for Web Application Security Scanner Evaluation Criteria, Agarwal is well-suited to provide valuable insight and direction for WhiteHat’s Education Services Program.

All course instructors are actively involved in the website security community, participating (and/or holding founders’ status) in respected organizations such as the Web Application Security Consortium (WASC) and the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP).  In addition to identifying new classes of vulnerabilities, WhiteHat instructors have published proof of concept attacks, books, articles/whitepapers, blogs and are frequent speakers at industry events.
